Once you have connected a custom domain to Cohere, it shows up across several parts of the product. This article explains how your custom domain works with your service landing pages, your client's enrollment experience, your lead magnets, and your email campaigns.
If you have not yet connected a domain, start with Connecting Your Domain for Your Cohere Website and Landing Pages and then come back here.
Choosing a domain for each service landing page
If you have multiple connected domains verified for landing pages, you can choose which domain each individual service landing page uses.
Where to find it
Open the Service management view for any service, then open the Customize Links modal.
The Domain name dropdown
A Domain name dropdown appears above the URL path field. The dropdown lists:
- All your connected and verified domains and subdomains configured for landing pages.
- Your Cohere subdomain (for example, jane.cohere.live), so you can switch back at any time.
When the modal opens, the dropdown shows the domain currently used for that landing page. If you have not set one yet, it defaults to your default landing page domain.
Behavior based on how many domains you have
- One eligible domain. The dropdown is disabled and the only domain is preselected.
- Multiple eligible domains. The dropdown is enabled and you can change the domain.
Switching domains
If you change the selected domain, you will see a confirmation dialog:
"By clicking Confirm, your previously shared links may no longer work for clients. Are you sure you want to proceed?"
This matters because once you switch:
- The new domain plus your existing slug becomes the new landing page URL.
- Any previously shared links on the old domain will no longer load.
Clicking Confirm applies the new domain and updates the URL preview immediately. Clicking Cancel reverts the change. Your changes are only saved when you save the Customize Links modal.
Independent domain behavior
Each connected domain is independent. If you have jane.com and janedoe.com both connected, janedoe.com does not automatically redirect to jane.com. Each domain serves its own URLs.
How your custom domain works during enrollment
Your client's experience is split into two phases: pre-enrollment and post-enrollment.
Pre-enrollment (on your custom domain)
Everything a client sees before they finish enrollment stays on your custom domain. This includes:
- The initial landing page load
- All landing page sections and steps
- Entering name, email, and any required enrollment details
- Enrollment actions taken from the landing page
- Payment steps for paid services
Throughout this entire experience, your client sees your branded URL in their browser.
Post-enrollment (on cohere.live)
Once a client successfully enrolls, they transition to cohere.live for the delivery experience. This includes:
- The post-payment redirect for paid services
- The delivery screen
- Service access and service management
- Any logged-in experience after enrollment
The transition is seamless and the client's session carries over. This keeps your branded experience consistent during sign-up, while keeping the delivery experience unified across all your services on cohere.live.
Lead magnets on your custom domain
If you have connected a custom domain for landing pages, it automatically applies to your lead magnets. No additional setup is required.
What this means in practice:
- Your custom domain URL works. For example, jane.com/abc-lead-magnet routes to the correct lead magnet landing page.
- Your existing default Cohere link continues to work. For example, app.cohere.live/abc-lead-magnet still routes to the same lead magnet.
- Both URLs point to the same lead magnet, so previously shared default links will not break when you connect a custom domain.
You do not need to update existing links manually. For new campaigns and outreach, use your custom domain links for consistency and deliverability.
Quick FAQ
Can I use different domains for different service landing pages?
Yes. The Domain name dropdown in Customize Links lets you choose a domain per service, as long as you have multiple eligible domains connected.
What happens to my old landing page URL if I switch the domain?
Previously shared links on the old domain will no longer load. You will see a confirmation dialog warning you about this before the change is applied.
Why does my client see cohere.live after they enroll?
Your custom domain handles the pre-enrollment experience, including landing page browsing, payment, and form completion. Once enrollment is complete, clients move into the delivery experience on cohere.live. The transition is seamless and the client's session carries over.
Will my clients have to log in twice?
No. The transition from your custom domain to cohere.live preserves the client's authenticated session.
Do I need to update my existing lead magnet links after connecting a custom domain?
No. Existing default Cohere links keep working, and your custom domain URL automatically points to the same lead magnet. You only need to use your custom domain links in new campaigns going forward.
Can I switch a service back to my Cohere subdomain after using a custom domain?
Yes. Select your Cohere subdomain (for example, jane.cohere.live) in the Domain name dropdown. The same warning applies: previously shared links on the custom domain will no longer load.
Summary
In short:
- You can choose which domain is used for each service landing page from the Customize Links modal.
- Your custom domain hosts the entire pre-enrollment experience, and clients transition to cohere.live for delivery once they finish enrolling.
- Lead magnets automatically work on your custom domain once connected, and existing default Cohere links keep working alongside.
