To get started, you’ll need to create or connect a Stripe account. This ensures your Cohere account can receive payments from clients.
Why is this important?
A linked payment processor is required for your services to run smoothly. You can either:
-
Use your own Stripe account (recommended for the smoothest experience), or
-
Use Cohere’s built-in payment processor if you’d like a simpler setup.
This guide will walk you through verifying your Stripe account.
Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1: Log in to your Cohere Dashboard and click the “Verify” button on the banner.
Step 2: You’ll be redirected to Stripe’s Identity Verification page.
Step 3: Your Cohere sign-up email will be auto-filled, this can be changed on this page.
Step 4: Click Continue and create a strong password.
Step 5: Enter your mobile number (choose the correct country code) and click Send Text to receive a verification code.
Step 6: Enter the code sent to your phone.
Step 7: Save the backup code generated by Stripe in case you lose access to your device.
Step 8: Provide your business details (location, type: Individual, Company, or Nonprofit).
Step 9–11: Fill out all required fields, including business and bank details for payouts. Continue through each section.
Step 12: Add public details (what your clients will see).
Step 13: Review your information. Use the edit button if you need to update anything.
Step 14: Click Agree & Submit to complete your verification.
Choosing the Right Business Type
When setting up your Stripe account, you’ll choose one of the following:
-
Individual: Best for freelancers or personal projects.
-
Company: For businesses of any size (LLC, partnership, or corporation).
-
Nonprofit Organization: For charities, foundations, or social enterprises. Stripe provides special tools for donations and fundraising.
