Why is it relevant?: At Cohere, we understand that, as a coach, you may prefer to have your own custom domain for your website. Here’s a simple guide to help you set up a URL redirect from your custom domain to your Cohere sub-domain (e.g., coachfirstnamecoachlastname.cohere.live).
This guide will walk you through the steps on how to set up a URL redirect for your custom domain
1. Purchase a Domain
First, you need to purchase a domain from a domain registrar like GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, or any other preferred provider.
2. Log in to Your Domain Registrar Account
Visit the website of your domain registrar and log in to your account.
3. Find the Domain Management Section
Navigate to the section where you can manage your domains. This is usually found under “My Domains,” “Domain Management,” or a similar heading.
4. Select the Domain
Choose the domain you want to set up the redirect for.
5. Locate the Redirect/Forwarding Settings
Look for an option like “URL Redirect,” “Domain Forwarding,” or “Forwarding.” This might be under “DNS settings” or a separate tab dedicated to redirections.
6. Add a New Redirect/Forwarding Rule
Click on the option to add a new redirect or forwarding rule. You will need to provide the following details:
Type of Redirect: Choose either a 301 (permanent) or 302 (temporary) redirect. A 301 redirect is generally preferred as it tells search engines that the redirect is permanent.
Source URL: Enter your custom domain (e.g., www.yourcustomdomain.com).
Destination URL: Enter your Cohere sub-domain (e.g., coachfirstnamecoachlastname.cohere.live).
7. Save the Settings
After entering the necessary details, save the settings. This will apply the redirect rule to your domain.
8. Wait for DNS Propagation
It might take a few minutes to a few hours for the changes to take effect due to DNS propagation. During this time, your domain will start redirecting to your Cohere sub-domain.
Example: Setting Up a Redirect on GoDaddy
Step 1. Log in to your GoDaddy account.
Step 2. Go to the “My Products” page.
Step 3. Under “Domains,” click on “Manage” next to the domain you want to redirect.
Step 4. In the “Additional Settings” section, click on “Manage DNS.”
Step 5. Scroll down to the “Forwarding” section and click on “Add” under “Domain.”
Step 6. Choose the type of redirect (301 or 302).
Step 7. Enter the destination URL (your Cohere sub-domain).
Step 8. Click on “Save” to apply the settings.
That’s it! You have successfully set up a URL redirect from your custom domain to your Cohere sub-domain. Now, when someone visits your custom domain, they will be automatically redirected to your Cohere website.
